50th Consecutive Post50th Consecutive Post

Posted December 4th, 2007 in Miscellaneous Postings

This post marks the 50th consecutive post on my LAMP Blog. I first set this website up in late 2003 to publish useful articles for solving problems etc and had intended to add new content every day. However other work kept me busy, and when I moved the site to a new server I never got around to making the admin functionality work again.

Earlier this year I decided I should get back into posting articles and turn this into a blog site. So I redeveloped the database structure, the admin and the frontend and re-skinned the website and turned it into a blog. I've only just added an RSS feed and will add some more "bloggy" things to it, such as user commenting etc shortly.

So earlier in the year, I rewrote the site, but then didn't actually start posting anything to it! It took me until September when I sat down and decided to actually get on with it, and for two weeks I managed to actually post something every day. And then I lapsed again...

And then finally, on October 16th I did actually start posting new blog posts every day. And this post marks the 50th day I've been posting every single day since then!

I could easily just post every day I have something to write about, but I know if I did that then I'd end up only posting new articles a few times each month. Having the plan to post something new every day gives me the discipline to actually do it.

Pretty much every time I have an issue with Linux or a coding issue, I'll write the solution down into a text editor and save it to my computer. I have a whole folder filled with ideas for blog posts. Generally I try to write the whole thing there and then, and try to keep a store of completed articles that I can post any day. That way if I don't have time to write something on a given day I can pull out one of these pre-written posts and away we go!

Recently my posts have been mainly about issues with Linux and not so much about the other parts of LAMP - Apache, MySQL and PHP. I intend to post more about these, and also about HTML, CSS and Javascript. I think the best way to approach this is to probably dedicate each day of the week to a specific topic, eg PHP on Tuesday, MySQL on Wednesday, Javascript on Thursday and so on. Maybe if I get enough content going I can step up the post frequency to a couple of times per day? Who knows; we'll soon see.

And finally for today, in order to claim this blog for my Technorati Profile I need to include that link.
