Electric Bookmarks Website Launched
Posted December 23rd, 2008 in Case Studies
On Thursday last week I finally launched my new Electric Bookmarks blog to complement this one, on which I post useful links and news along with a little blurb about each.
This new website is effectively a spin-off from my weekly roundups and I've discontinued the offsite links from that weekly post and moved them entirely to the new site. I did this for the following reasons:
1. The weekly post was simply becoming too long with too many offsite posts.
2. A lot of the posts are news and some could be a little old or stale by the time they showed up in my weekly post; sometimes 7 days old.
3. Part of the reason for the offsite posts is so I have somewhere to easily reference useful links, tips, tutorials, plugins etc but the search engine on this site wasn't capable of easily finding these. By putting them into a different site with a single post per link I can more easily search and find what I'm after.
Although the site has gone live already it's still missing a few things...
1. There's no contact details to contact me yet. I figured this isn't so important to start with given there won't be many people reading it anyway. And there is a link on the homepage back here and a contact form here. So I'll get around to it.
2. There's no search function yet.
3. There's no posting ability yet.
4. The tags pages aren't paged yet, so everything in a tag (aka category) will appear on one long page. This is OK for the moment but won't be so good when there are more posts.
I really wanted to get the site live, and am currently on holiday for two weeks so figured best to get the site live and fix those when I get back from holiday. I'll be continuing to post news etc on that site while I'm away but won't be coding any new functionality.
I'll follow up in the New Year to this post when the above functions are all ready with some screenshots and talk about the technology etc behind the site.
