Fedora 8 has been released and contains a vast number of improvements new features, and a new theme known as Nodoka. Below are some screenshots from the Gnome Live CD; the next post shows some screenshots from the KDE Live CD
A "Live CD" allows you to boot a Linux desktop directly from the CD without installing anything to your computer. This is useful for testing a Linux distribution out without harming your existing operating system. The Fedora Live CDs allow you to also install Fedora once booted into the desktop if you so choose, and can be purchase from Linux CD Mall
A full list of new features etc can be found on the Fedora Project website, in the release summary and the release notes
The screenshots of Fedora 8 below were taken at either 800x600 or 1024x768 screen resolution and have been scaled down to 600x450.
This shows the initial boot screen when booting into the Fedora 8 live CD

This screenshot shows the Fedora 8 Gnome Live CD login screen. It will auto login after 60 seconds, or as soon as you click the "Fedora Live" user icon on the left side. No password is required.

Running the Fedora 8 live cd on VMWare, the screen resolution was only 800x600. Fortunately Fedora 8 makes it really easy to change the screen resolution. The screenshot below shows where to go on the Gnome menus to change the screen resoltion.

And this dialog box shows how easy it is to change the screen resolution.

And finally, the Nautilus file browser with a few windows open.
