MotorhomeRoadTrip.com goes live
Posted April 14th, 2010 in Case Studies and SilverStripe
It's still very much a work in progress but we pushed motorhomeroadtrip.com live yesterday. It uses SilverStripe as the framework/CMS and we're currently loading content into it and finishing everything off.
Purpose of the website
The Motor Home Road Trip website is a travel guide for people who are wanting to explore the world in a motorhome or RV. It will cover travel destinations, campervanning tips, local customs and language and a heap more.
We will shortly have a worldwide campervan booking website going and there's a search form which we simply need to enable so people can search for a motor home to rent while working out what to do for their holiday.
Technologies
The website was coded using SilverStripe, which uses PHP and MySQL. Although there's not a lot of Javascript in the site currently, once we get some more of features enabled as we add more content there is a fair amount of jQuery used to drive menus, the search function etc. Google maps are also used in the site and can be optionally shown or hidden. Cookies are used to remember if the map should be shown from page to page.
Screenshots
Here's a couple of screenshots showing the homepage and the Australian landing page.

More development and content
As I mentioned at the start of this post there's still a lot of work to be done. We wanted to push it live now to start getting indexed in the search engines while we continue to add content and functionality. I'll update with additional posts as we add anything that might be relevent or interesting.
