My new phone - Nokia 6121

I got a new mobile phone on Monday - a Nokia 6121, which is pictured to the right. This post looks at the features etc of this phone and what my criteria was for choosing it.
Until recently I was using an iMate JasJar as my mobile phone (it's a Windows Mobile smartphone) but it stopped working whenever the battery got down to about 30%. I probably could have just got another battery to fix the problem but that phone had been annoying me for a while because it's too big and I've always had issues with it when making calls, frequently not managing to answer in time etc because it was so stupid sometimes.
I went back to using my old Nokia 6310 (view it here at the Nokia website) which had always worked really well, but wanted some new and nice and small.
I decided that I needed:
- to not spend too much
- FM radio - so I can listen to GeorgeFM when working at my customers' offices
- MP3 player - so I can listen to music when running
- video calling - so I can video call my wife and son
- small/lightweight - so I can carry it in a pocket when running
- modem - so I can connect my laptop to the Internet when out and about (although if it didn't have this capability I wasn't too worried)
The choice came down to a Nokia 6121 or a Sony Ericsson v640i which were the only two I could find in New Zealand which were reasonably priced and fit all my criteria.
I decided in the end to go for the slightly more expensive Nokia because I liked the look of it a bit more and have had good experiences with Nokia mobile phones. Of the 5 mobile phones I have owned this is my 4th Nokia.
I ordered it from my supplier last week (cheaper than full retail) and it arrived on Monday afternoon. I have been very impressed with it so far and it comes with great synchronisation and file transfer software that runs on your computer. The software compresses music files into a much smaller size than MP3 (and still sound great) which is excellent because I can fit even more songs onto it than I thought I was going to be able to.
So I'm very happy with my new phone. I might see if I can find someone to buy my old iMate cheap...
