RSS Feed Launched
Posted December 5th, 2007 in Miscellaneous Postings
Finally I have added an RSS feed to the site, using Feedburner to host the feed so I can get an idea of the number of people using it. I have chosen to create my own blogging application rather than use something like Wordpress, so this means all the stuff like RSS feeds, commenting etc must be programmed myself rather than using inbuilt tools or 3rd party add-ons. This of course means more work but I prefer to do it this way.
I spent about an hour yesterday getting the RSS feed working, and working my way through a few bugs. I tested it out in Akgregator (the RSS reader I use myself), Bloglines, Google Reader, Newsgator, Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox, and it all seemed to look OK across them.
Tomorrow or Friday I'll look to add those useful little "add to" widgets to make it easier for people to add the feed to their accounts, and also an invitation to subscribe to the feed at the end of each post.
At the start of each month I post a monthly summary for the previous month, reporting on popular posts, visitor numbers, and now I'll also look at the number of RSS subscribers. Hopefully with a little work here I should be able to get a few.
